Virtual Reality, or VR, is no longer a futuristic benefit reserved for The Jetsons. It’s here, and it’s quickly gaining popularity in the gaming world and beyond as more and more influencers are realizing the real value of VR and its potential to influence the way we work and live. In fact, virtual reality is one of the three innovation pillars – along with connectivity and artificial intelligence – Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer revealed during the company’s annual conference.
Last week, MakeOffices partnered with NotionTheory, a leader in virtual reality software development, to launch notionVR, the East Coast’s first Virtual Reality arcade, in our Dupont Circle coworking community in DC. The arcade allows visitors to experience the best of VR and play popular games like fruit ninja on the HTC Vive, which features a dual-wielding hand motion sensor for a full range of motion.
The potential of VR is far more expansive than just gaming. According to Kristian Bouw, CEO and co-founder of NotionTheory, “Virtual reality is the next big media frontier and serves as an empathy engine for us to connect with people and our surroundings in ways that we never have before.” At the launch event for notionVR, Kristian and Sean McBeth, Lead VR Engineer at NotionTheory, also shared the history of VR and the metaverse to a packed house of DC tech influencers. While the launch event was an exclusive first look, the arcade is now open to the public. Visitors can reserve 30-minute slots to experience the latest in VR. MakeOffices members have exclusive free access to the arcade every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m and should contact their Community Manager to sign up.
